The Leapfroggroup is a nonprofit patient safety organization originally set up to rate hospitals. It has three goals:
Employers want to know which are the better hospitals; medical errors and injuries cost employers a great deal of money in lost productivity.
The Leapfroggroup recently rated the nation’s hospitals and assigned them a score of A, B, C, D or F. A total of 729 U.S. hospitals received a score of A.
How does your local hospital rate? By filling in a zip code, you will find out how the hospitals around you rate. The Leapfroggroup site provides a report that explains the comprehensive set of measurements used to calculate the ratings.
What should you do with this information? Read about your hospital now, before you have to be admitted for an injury or illness. Find out where your family practice or internal medicine has privileges. If your doctor is on staff of more than one hospital, compare them and see which has a higher rating. keep this information in the back of your mind for the time you may need it.
