Pat Iyer

Pat Iyer MSN RN LNCC is president of Avoid Medical Errors. Pat started Avoid Medical Errors to help the public gain knowledge to become more healthy and to protect themselves from medical errors. She has come to recognize that there is a safety net under health care, and no matter how hard we try, the holes in the safety net permit people to fall through, often with disastrous results. Her aim is to use AME to arm patients with more knowledge so they can act as their own patient advocates.

She is a registered nurse with a masters degree in nursing from University of Pennsylvania, 40 years of experience as a nurse including 24 years working with attorneys who handle medical malpractice cases. Pat earned her Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC) from the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, the only legal nurse consulting certification that meets all of the criteria of the American Board of Nursing Specialties. She has extensive experience in the field of legal nurse consulting, including 20 years of testifying as a nursing expert witness in nursing malpractice cases. She is a past president of the national organization, American Association of Legal Nurse Consulting, and the chief editor of the core curriculum of legal nurse consulting, The Principles and Practices of Legal Nurse Consulting, Second Edition. Pat is a prolific author, and has written, coauthored or edited 125 books, chapters, articles, online courses, and case studies. Her books have been translated into Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and Indonesian languages. Pat’s most recent book is Nursing Malpractice, Fourth Edition, coedited with Barbara Levin, Kathleen Ashton and Victoria Powell. It was published in 2011.

Pat is the president of Med League Support Services, MedLeague.com, which helps attorneys. She also serves legal nurse consultants through PatIyer.com. She is a member of several professional associations.
